NIKON vs SONY vs CANON. THE WAR GOES ON

By K. J KO Sept, 1, 2009

The war of 2006 was in entry level DSLRs : Nikon D80 vs canon 400D vs sony A300

2007, it was high end cropbody DSLRs : Nikon D300 v,s Canon 40D vs Sony A700

last year, it was FF (full 35mm size sensor) DSLRs : Nikon D700 vs Canon 5D markII vs Sony A900

Now........another one is about to begin.

First one moved was Nikon, upgrading its DX format Flagship D300 with 's' on it.

Well, it was not much of an upgrade since only thing thats changed was that Nikon added HD

video recording feature in it. However, regarding that D300 was already a monster with 100%

viewfinder with 51 AF focusing points, its more like an upgraded monster.

This latest Nikon DX flagship came out with $1799 price tag on it.
[ D300 + HD video = D300s(?)]

On the other hand, Sony decided to degrade its monster, A900, rather than to upgrade its

A700; well as you can see, 850 is more of '900 - 50' than '700 + 150'.

A900 was a monster with a 24MP FF sensor, dual BIONZ processor, a 100% viewfinder, and

5FPS continuous shooting;what Sony did was to make a cheaper version of it by making it with

98%viewfinder and 3FPS shooting. One might say that they would rather get A900 for c

complete high end feature, A850 is $700 cheaper than its big brother (A850 : $1999, A900:

$2699), which makes it the cheapest FF body out in the market. Not only that Sony did not

degrade the CMOS sensor in it, so you get same 24MP sensor that is used in Nikon's

$9000 body, D3X

(the first FF body under $2k, well $1999 is still under $2k......isnt it?)

Before Canon 5D mark II came out, there was a rumor that 5D's upgrade model would be

named 7D. Since 5D's upgrade version was named 5D mark II, many people were curious

what 7D would look like. Would it be cheaper version of 5D Mark II? or would it be highend

APS-C type? Now, here is the spec for this monster that canon introduced.

It has 18MP CMOS sonsor (highest pixel density yet), dual DIGIX IV processors (OMG!),

8FPS, 100% viewfinder, HD video, and 19 AF Focus points.

Dont be surprised yet, its cheaper than D300s by $100, $1699.

(Another member of Canon's Eos - one digit number family)

the war has begun.

would the winner be upgraded version Nikon's DX flagship? Sony's 24MP A850? or Canon's

stunning 7D?

Im just hoping that the MegaMillion Lottery ticket in my hand is a winning one, so that i can

have all three of them :)
