"to obtain something is to give something up"
well is this true in photography world?
is it impossible to have both the picture quality of a DLSR with the portability of a compact camera?
surprisingly, it wasnt the leading three: canon, Nikon and Sony, who found the ground breaking methods to solve this problem.
the first one to challenge the idea was Sigma.
september of 2006, sigma announced its new point-and- shoot camera with a Poveon sensor!
the sensor that was used in their DSLR cameras!! with sigma's fixed 16.6mm lens!
More than that, in 2009, with an brighter lens, (F4-> F2.8), sigma announced the second generation of this monsterous compact camera.
(sigma DP2)
however, the thing was that neither sigma DP1 nor DP2 was able to change its lens.
Panasonic Lumix, found a solution.
a DSLR without a mirror.
we call it micro four third system.

panasonics announced its DMC- GH1 micro four third shooter this april.
not only it has a 12MP 18 x 13.5mm sensor, but also it can take 720p video.
more than that, consider this, this camera is only 385g!!
(panasonic GH1)
Wellknown for its compact cameras and light weight DSLRs, Olympus joined this war of hybrids. Olympus Pen E-p1 is a micro four third type camera, like Panasonic GH1.
Olympus Pen E-P1 not only inherited its name from the companies legendary film camera, Pen-F but also its BEAUTIFUL design!!
(New Olympus Pen e 1p(left) and conventional Pen F(right))
you gotta admit, this camera is SEXY
but in this sexy body is a 12MP 2x crop sensor plus a HD video recording feature!!
and it is feather light! only 315g!
unfortunatly, or fortunatly, i can't commit to buy because my wallet is empty!
still there are hundreds of features that make a DSLR camera much better than these hybrid ones. but, remember, "to obtain something is to give something up" :)
